When to use it
A folder of scans named by the scanner, a folder of attachments named by the sender, a folder of photos named by the phone.
Or a naming rule exists in the firm, everyone knows it, and nobody applies it because it is twenty minutes of renaming by hand.
What this tool does
- A token-based naming pattern:
{date},{type},{emetteur},{personne},{original},{numero}. Six ready-made patterns, and yours if you prefer. - The before and after preview, row by row, with the reason for each name. Nothing is written until you approve.
- File-system constraints are respected: forbidden characters, Windows reserved names (
con,nul,lpt1), paths beyond 260 characters, case collisions, macOS decomposed accents. - A verified copy, not a blind move: every file written is read back and compared against its digest before the original is touched.
- A log, and the undo. On a real folder, 174 documents were sorted, verified one by one, then put back in 149 milliseconds.
What it does not do: the tool does not invent a name when it has identified nothing: the document keeps its original name and goes to 00-a-classer/. An invented name would be worse than an ugly one.
What is read in the document
- What the identification found: type, date, issuer, person.
- The original name, kept as it is when the pattern asks for it.
- Nothing else: the content of the documents does not go into the name.

Frequently asked questions
- Are my files moved or copied?
- Copied, by default, into an output folder you choose: the original does not move. Renaming in place exists, it is asked for explicitly, and it writes a log.
- What happens if two documents get the same name?
- The tool adds a suffix and says so in the “why” column. It never overwrites an existing file: on some browsers overwriting is silent, and that is how a document disappears.
- Can I undo afterwards?
- Yes, as long as the tab is open: the log is replayed backwards. The log is also written into the output folder, so you know what happened.
